Last June, Porsche celebrated the 70th anniversary of its sports cars by introducing the 911 Speedster Concept, designed to focus primarily on a pure driving experience. Painted in silver and white, this car sported a truncated windshield, smaller side windows and a double-bubble panel covering the rear section of its cabin, paying tribute to the 1948 Porsche 356 Number 1. At the last Paris Motor Show, Porsche presented the second concept, this time painted in Guards Red and having some aesthetic differences compared to the car unveiled the previous summer. Its paintwork is a reference to the 911 Speedster sold in 1988. "The concept study, presented during the 70th birthday of the sports car manufacturer, will be produced as a limited special edition: Porsche has decided to start producing the purist Porsche 911 Speedster in the first half of 2019," said the carmaker. Not surprisingly, Porsche has announced that a production version of the 911 Speedster will be available - in limited quantities - in 2019. It will be based on the 991 range, and will be the first car to be offered with the new Heritage Design Packages, which will provide according to the manufacturer: "an even higher degree of personalization for the 911" To create these two concept cars, Porsche used the bodywork of a 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, but the chassis of a 911 GT3. On the other hand, the wings, the trunk lid, and the rear cover were made using carbon fiber composite, while the exhaust tips use titanium. "The same goes for the centerpiece of the limited special edition" says Porsche, meaning that the production car will be equipped with a naturally-aspirated flat-six engine developing 500 horsepower and with a maximum engine speed of 9,000 rpm and a six-speed manual gearbox. In fact, the company said "more than 500 horses", so we have to wait for a confirmation as to the official power. Only 1,948 copies of the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster will be produced.
